In Khmelnych region, a man tortured and raped a cow – but yesterday it became known that the police closed the criminal proceedings in this case, because the animal recovered. UAnimals and other animal rights groups expressed outrage, and on July 12 the case was reopened. After the public outcry, the police officers announced that the criminal proceedings had been reopened, and the case had been sent for further investigation. “The closure of the criminal proceedings has already been cancelled. The law enforcement officers, together with the prosecutors of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Prosecutor’s Office, after an additional study of the materials, decided to cancel the decision to close the criminal proceedings of the Investigation under Part 1 of Art. 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine was renewed. The police say that they will conduct additional investigations and examinations. “After receiving the results of the investigations, the issue of declaring suspicion against a 22-year-old man who, at the end of May, was pulling a cow tied to a minitractor in the village of Antonina, Khmelnytskyi district, will be decided.
