The men who allegedly raped a Spanish blogger in India have been arrested

Police have arrested four more men on charges of gang-raping a tourist and assaulting her husband in India.

Earlier, the police announced the arrest of only three of the seven suspects, reports CNN.

The couple, who were traveling on a motorcycle from the Indian state of West Bengal to neighboring Nepal, were found by patrolling policemen. They were taken to a medical facility, where the woman told the doctor that she had been raped.

The police knew the identities of the suspects and formed a special investigation team to track them down, Kherwar said.

The arrests came after a couple of travel bloggers posted on Instagram on Saturday, March 2, that they were “knives held to their throats” during an attack in India. According to them, the raped woman underwent a DNA examination at the hospital.

In her stories on Instagram, the woman showed bruises on her face, saying: “This is what my face looks like, but it’s not what hurts me the most. I thought I was going to die.”

India’s National Commission for Women (NCW) has condemned the alleged attack. NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma spoke to the victim and provided all necessary assistance, the organization said on social network X.

India has struggled with high levels of violence against women for years. The attention of the international community was drawn to the problem by a number of high-profile cases of rape of foreigners.

According to India’s National Crime Records Bureau, nearly 32,000 rape cases were recorded in the country in 2022 – an average of 86 cases per day.

Experts warn that the reported cases are only a small fraction of the real number, as rape victims and their families face shame and stigma in this deeply patriarchal country.
