The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice supported the draft law on registered partnerships

The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice supported draft law No. 9103, which aims to allow Ukrainians to enter into registered (civil) partnerships.
One of its initiators, deputy Inna Sovsun, announced this on her Facebook page.
Previously, the Ministry of Defense opposed the draft law. The agency believed that it contradicted the Constitution and discriminated against military personnel who entered into traditional marriages.
According to Inna Sovsun, from now on the Ministry of Defense “changed its position and supported the draft law.”

The Ministry of Justice had to develop an alternative law on registered partnerships. However, as the MP notes, this institution has decided to support the existing draft law and is already preparing amendments for the second reading.
“As the Ministry of Justice said, if draft law No. 9103 is adopted, Ukraine will fulfill its obligations under Article 8 of the Convention on Human Rights. And grounds for filing lawsuits with the European Court of Human Rights against Ukraine due to discrimination will disappear.
The Ministry of Justice assesses the draft law as the first progressive step towards a constructive dialogue with society. The purpose of which is to create a legal mechanism for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms”. – says Sovsun.
From now on, the fate of the draft law will be decided by the parliament.

We will remind you that Inna Sovsun submitted the draft law on civil partnerships to the Verkhovna Rada in March 2023. It provides for the official registration of partnerships, which can be used by opposite-sex and same-sex couples.
According to the draft law, civil partners are equated with close relatives. They have property and inheritance rights, social protection, but cannot adopt children and take custody of them.
The petition in support of the draft law on registered partnerships received 25,000 votes.
So far, he has received the support of four committees of the Verkhovna Rada.
