As of January 24, there are 12,926 general secondary education institutions in Ukraine. In particular, in 3,955 schools, children study face-to-face, in 4,363 – remotely, and in 4,608 – in a mixed form. This is stated in the report of the Ministry of Education and Science as of January 2023, according to the data of the education departments of the regional military administrations. More than 510,000 schoolchildren and more than 12,000 teachers continue to stay abroad. According to operational information of the education departments of the regional military administrations, 9,689 preschool education institutions have started the educational process. In particular, in 5,068 kindergartens, children study face-to-face, in 3,204 – in a distance form, and in 1,417 institutions conduct education in a mixed form. In total, 63.5% of preschool children study in various educational institutions. More than 6,000 kindergartens provide educational services to immigrants, and 921 kindergartens are under Russian occupation. More than 4,500 inclusive groups operate in kindergartens, where more than 7,000 children with special educational needs study. Special schools According to the Ministry of Education and Culture, 273 special institutions of general secondary education operate in Ukraine, where more than 34,000 children study. “Depending on the security situation in the region and the safe conditions created in educational institutions, education takes place in face-to-face, distance and mixed forms. Among the students of the mentioned institutions, 8,577 people live/stay in the boarding houses of these institutions,” the report says. At the same time, children do not live in institutions located in the most potentially dangerous regions (Donetsk, Odesa, Kharkiv, Kherson, Luhansk). There are 1,220 children with special educational needs abroad who were evacuated as part of schools, sanatorium-boarding schools, orphanages, etc. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, 36 institutions from among special, sanatorium educational institutions and children’s homes have been damaged and destroyed. These are institutions of Donetsk (10), Zaporizhia (3), Luhansk (5), Mykolaiv (4), Odesa (1), Kharkiv (6) and Kyiv (7) regions. Restoration work is ongoing in special Kyiv institutions. We will remind you that as of February 14, as a result of the actions of the Russian occupiers, 3,126 educational institutions in Ukraine were damaged, and 338 were completely destroyed.
