The Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports proposes to hold the first lesson on the importance of mental health in schools on September 1

The Ministry of Education and Science invites teachers to talk to students about the importance of mental health at the first lesson of the new academic year. The lesson was called “How are you? Let’s go back to school!”, says the ministry’s website. The lesson was developed for two age categories of students – from 1st to 6th grade and from 7th to 11th grade. Its main goal will be to teach children several self-regulation techniques in order to overcome fear or anxiety. The class materials include video messages from psychologists who talk about how our emotions work, as well as show exercises that will help stabilize in difficult moments. It also has information on how adults can support children now, links to helpful resources with self-help exercises and techniques, and links to support groups for educators and online courses on teaching in times of crisis. You can download the lesson script from the link. The lesson materials were developed within the All-Ukrainian mental health program “How are you?”, initiated by the First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine. We will remind you that in Ukraine they want to change the rules for the formation of teachers’ salaries.
