Vasyl Havrylyak, a fourth-generation forester from Bukovyna, has been defending Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale invasion. Previously, the man worked in the forestry industry for more than 20 years, his story was told in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine. In peacetime, a military man worked as a forester. He knew about what he would become in adult life as a child. “My great-grandfather, grandfather, and father worked in the forest. So the choice of my future profession was obvious. As a child, my father always took me with him to work. He told me a lot, and all this was etched in my memory, “lay” on my soul,” – says Vasyl Havrylyak. Vasyl Havrylyak. There were also plans to civilize all recreational areas, but this was prevented by the war. On February 24, Vasyl Havrylyak began serving as a member of the ranks of territorial defense. Covered the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the second front line already during training. According to the ministry, in April, a military brigade went to the East. At first, she was in Kharkiv Oblast – in the place of the fiercest battles. Then they defended the borders in Donetsk region and Luhansk region. “I remember September 10 the most. On that day, my comrades and I liberated the village of Velika Komyshuvakha in the Kharkiv region, which is 30 kilometers from the strategic Izyum,” says the soldier. According to him, there were almost no local residents left there, but dozens of headquarters with Russian equipment and weapons were discovered. For Vasyl Havrylyak, the forest has always been a place of rest for soul and body, where he feels at home. “But when I look at those broken and destroyed forests that suffered from the war, it’s scary. Frankly, it’s impossible to look calmly,” the forester emphasizes. The defender dreams of returning to work after the end of the war and being able to work peacefully and develop forestry.
