The more drones, the less our fighters will die – “Grek”, commander of air reconnaissance “Kraken”

Now “Grek” is the head of the sector of reconnaissance, adjustment and support of assault groups of the UAV company of the special unit “Kraken”. The man joined the army as a volunteer.

“UAVs are the future. And there should be a lot of unmanned systems, it doesn’t matter if they are air or ground systems. Then people will not die. So let equipment die better than people in battles”, – notes “Grek” at the beginning of the conversation.

In order to become a pilot, first of all you need the will and desire, then the course of a young fighter. The military must understand whether the candidate is physically and psychologically ready. War, says “Grek”, is not work, so you have to be ready for both physical exertion and stress. And there is no timetable in the war: there is a task that must be carried out in spite of everything.

“[Курс молодого бійця передбачає] tactical training, fire training, medical training, of course. Regarding UAVs, we already teach in the mouth. Boys at KMB undergo general training on the course. When we already understand that the pilot will be, we provide additional qualifications depending on who he sees himself as. Pilot is general. Currently, there are a large number of vehicles that can be used to fly, so we decide accordingly,” the commander continues.

First of all, the future pilot must have a well-developed logic. Other branches of the structure or senior military personnel will notice already during training. The fact is that each tool has its own specifics of use.

“After some time, well, that is, a month, two or three, as a rule, a person already has some inclination. You should see it. Or a person is capable of engineering and explosive work, that is, you see that he can do it. There are a lot of ammunition and ammunition that are used, but they are not used in the regular version, but they need to be somehow processed.

[…]So if you see that a person has a knack for that, I think it’s more for FPV, because you can vary the ammunition there. And in the same way in large impact quadcopters, hexacopters, octacopters – it depends on the configuration,” explains “Grek”.

Many, the Greek continues, like intelligence and surveillance. However, this is not about controlling the well-known “Maviks” or Autel, they are not long-range devices. Here it is worth choosing those means that can work behind enemy lines, such as FPV. However, this is only a conditional division.

“You can be working in one location, and there, let’s say, there is no such suppression as in another. And you have the technical capabilities to hit a target that is further away. Not at the front, but somewhere in the relative rear of the enemy. It’s like history, that you constantly need to analyze information: where you are, what you can use here, you can use it or you can’t,” adds the soldier.

According to Greka, FPV drones are currently one of the most effective tools. However, the amount provided, for example, by the BF “Sky of Victory” is not enough. He says he wants more support from the state.

To prevent an incident from happening, the military must check the provided equipment. This is especially important when it comes to testing new models. However, for the most part, they pleasantly surprise.

“”Victory Sky” makes such a device called “Volynyak”. We got the very first one, it was written 001, that is, it was the very first board. And it showed itself very well. I don’t want to say anything bad about any other devices that make other guys, other workshops, but he gave a result of 100% from the first sortie. Three were hits directly on the target and one nearby. That is, one was close-range, and then three worked on the BMPshka. The personnel fled, the BMPshka caught fire, the detonation began there, but it’s a one hundred percent defeat,” Grek says inspiredly.

Distance and weather conditions affect the effectiveness of drones. During the rain, for example, it is impossible to work. But the military man hopes that there will be good results in the winter as well, because, he says, it is necessary to win.

In order to hit a moving target, provided that there are no problems with control, suppression, influence of enemy REB, 1-3 drones are needed. The very fact that the target is moving does not play a significant role.

“What can move fast on the front? Nothing. Well, it moves, but it’s fast … 50 kilometers at most. And you fly on a chopper, which can fly 120. Cruising speed is 90-100, but the maximum there is 120. Well, some kind of dance it can drive like that, but the rest of the equipment does not move that fast. Up to 100 kilometers. You will still catch up and still impress,” explains “Grek”.

How many FPV drones are used per month is difficult to answer. It depends on which area or section the pilot is in. At least 500 go into battle.

The “Greek” himself hit many targets with the help of FPV drones: “There were “loaves”, there were BMPs, there were tanks, and there were personnel, and enemy firing points, that is, some dugouts, trenches, trenches”.

Success on the battlefield depends primarily on planning, communication with each other and the ability to quickly respond to challenges. For example, at the most critical moment, the UAV may simply break down.

“No one canceled the field repair. Here it all worked, here you tested everything, you are 100% carrying 10-20-30 working Copts. And then you arrive and realize that something is wrong, something is not working, somewhere the ration flew off … you start adjusting something again, the guys take a soldering iron with them so that some field repairs can be carried out right on the spot, so that you don’t have to go to a temporary location,” explains “Grek”.

A master pilot, the commander continues, will do well even with an “average” quality drone. 65-70% of success on the battlefield depends precisely on the skills of the operator.

And although “Grek” says that you cannot fight without fear, you must remember that even in the most difficult situation with a fighter, his skills remain.

“There is no such point of objectivity when making a decision. Practice has shown that when you find yourself in a really extreme situation, you and your skills remain. Everything else is there [теоретичні] knowledge, something else is forgotten. That is, some reflexive things remain, what you learned,” the soldier notes.

However, novice pilots must be taught matecraft. Now, “Grek” continues, there are many materials, schools and courses. Therefore, education is first of all.

“If these are people with combat experience, then there is a maximum level of concentration, you have to listen very carefully. They will not give you any unnecessary information, they will give you what you already need for your further work. And then – constant training, training, training.” – adds the commander.

Unfortunately, the enemy is also not sleeping and is developing in the field of UAVs. Although it does not fly well, the Russians have an advantage in numbers. Regarding skill, “The Greek” convinces: “We are better. 100%, because we are made in Ukraine.”

And he adds: “The number… it is necessary for people to hold meetings a little more briskly, not to lose the thread of understanding that the war is not somewhere over there, it is here, it is still here. A bunch of territories that are still occupied, and we have very, very many jobs. And a big job requires a lot of resources. In our case, it’s FPV. We need quantity to be able to deliver quality.”

Even the smallest donation matters. For the hryvnia, says “Grek”, you can’t buy anything now, but donate and contribute to the victory you can

We will remind you that the BF “Sky of Victory” has started a new collection for 100 FPV drones for the 58th brigade, with a total cost of 2,250,000 hryvnias. Anyone can join the collection
