The Zamoskvoretsky Court of Moscow rejected the claim of the singer Zemfira (Ramazanova) to the Ministry of Justice of Russia with the demand to declare illegal the decision to include her in the list of so-called foreign agents. This was reported by a TASS correspondent from the courtroom.
The ministry included the singer in the register in February 2023. The department stated that the artist openly spoke in support of Ukraine, gave concerts in “unfriendly countries” with anti-war appeals and received support from foreign sources.
The register of foreign agents in Russia was created in 2012 for non-commercial organizations. Later it was allowed to include mass media, then individuals, now the law allows anyone to be included in it. Now the Ministry of Justice considers more than 450 people and organizations to be “foreign agents”, including foreign citizens, foreign mass media and companies.
Human rights organizations note that inclusion in the register is, in fact, arbitrary, and participants are subject to unreasonable restrictions.
