The National Security and Defense Council called on the Verkhovna Rada to adopt a law on medical cannabis. At the upcoming plenary session, deputies will consider draft law No. 7457, the importance of which was emphasized by Volodymyr Zelenskyi, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, doctors, and public organizations. The NSDC also supported the initiative and emphasized that “the right to life is an inalienable right of every person”, and the state is obliged to ensure the creation of conditions for effective and affordable medical care for all. “The legal use of medical cannabis for medicinal purposes is an issue that has not been discussed for the first time. At the same time, access to cannabis-based medicines can help reduce the severity of pain in cancer patients or patients with epilepsy, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis or psychological disorders. The emergence of conditions caused by war, made the issue of ensuring patients’ access to medical cannabis-based medicines even more urgent,” the agency says. According to the Ministry of Health, more than 2 million Ukrainians now need such drugs, and the war will lead to an increase in the number of people with mental problems. The adoption of draft law No. 7457 will be another step in the direction of humanism and orientation to people’s needs,” the NSDC emphasizes . Also, the NSDC notes that the controlled circulation of medical cannabis already exists in more than 56 countries of the world, including Germany, Italy, the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, as well as Israel, Great Britain, the USA and Canada, etc. It will be recalled that earlier oncologists appealed to the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada with a call to legalize medical cannabis.
