12-year-old Andrii and his grandmother were returned from the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region to the territory controlled by Ukraine.

The initiator of the return was the boy’s older sister, reported Human Rights Commissioner Dmytro Lubinets.

In the summer of 2022, Andriy’s mother died, and since then he lived with his grandmother.

“During the occupation, they experienced all the “advantages of the Russian world”: intimidation, psychological pressure, visits by representatives of the occupation authorities.

The boy was threatened to be taken away from his grandmother and placed in an orphanage, as he was left without a legal representative.” – said the ombudsman.

On January 1, 2024, with the joint efforts of the Office of the Ombudsman and the “Ukrainian Network for Children’s Rights”, they were able to be taken to the territory controlled by Ukraine.

“So the first day of the new year symbolically became the first day of a new life for this family.” Lubinets concluded.

We will remind you that Ukraine returned the 12-year-old son of a military woman who lived under occupation for more than a year and a half.
