The ombudsman told which violations of the language law were recorded most often in 2023

Most violations of the language law in Ukraine are recorded on the Internet: on the websites of Ukrainian entrepreneurs and business accounts.
This was reported by Taras Kremin, the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language.
According to the ombudsman, last year his secretariat received appeals from citizens regarding 958 Internet sites that violate the requirements of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”.
“The vast majority of violations (82%) relate to the lack of a Ukrainian-language version of the site, a significant part (13.5%) – loading in a non-state language by default, another number (4.5%) – execution of part of the information in the Ukrainian-language version in a non-state language”– said Taras Kremin.

Kremin also noted that 65% of violations were eliminated. At the same time, the vast majority of Internet agencies that continue to violate the law do not publish their registration data (name and location). Therefore, it will be more difficult to prosecute them.
The commissioner for the protection of the state language emphasized that detailed information about violators should be provided when filing complaints.
“In cases where business owners do not publish information about themselves on the sites, it can be found in invoices, invoices, fiscal checks or other payment documents.
In addition, everyone has the right to request information about the name, location, etc. from the seller. This is provided for by the law of Ukraine.” – noted Taras Kremin.
In case of violations of the language law, the ombudsman calls for filing a complaint. For this you need:
- record the fact of refusal to provide services in the state language and provide information about the violator;
- submit a complaint to the postal address (01001, Kyiv, Muzeynyi lane, 12) or e-mail ([email protected]) or fill out the form on the website
