The Omicron XBB.1.5 or “Kraken” variant of COVID-19 was detected in four regions of Ukraine. The Omicron strain subspecies was confirmed in patients in the Sumy, Zakarpattia, Odesa and Ternopil regions, the Public Health Center reports. “This development of the event was predicted, because each new mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus replaces the previous one. Although Omicron itself is easier to transfer, it has the ability to be transmitted faster. This puts an additional burden on the medical system. To protect yourself and your loved ones, you need to get vaccinated and get booster shots. If you experience SARS symptoms, wear a mask and isolate yourself as soon as possible,” emphasizes Oksana Koshalko, head of the epidemiologic department of the Central Hospital. The center reminded that the most effective method of preventing the consequences of the disease on COVID-19 is vaccination. Protect yourself and your loved ones!” – emphasizes Andriy Pashinny, head of the Department of Immunization of Central Hospital. We will remind you that the first case of “Kraken” in Ukraine was recorded at the end of January 2023. Also read: China declares “victory” over COVID-19 despite recent outbreaks of the disease
