Polio is a disease caused by a virus that primarily affects the spinal cord or brain stem. It is most often spread through feces and saliva. Among the symptoms of poliomyelitis are muscle pains and spasms, weakness, stiffness of the spine and neck, decreased reflexes, paralysis and deformation of the limbs.
