The patronage service of “Azov” urges you to sign a petition on the creation of a Memorial to the Heroes of the “Azov” regiment, the defenders of Mariupol in Kyiv. The memorial is proposed to be installed on the Singing Field, not far from the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War. The corresponding petition appeared on the president’s website on May 3, reports the official charity fund “Angels of Azov”. “The defenders of Mariupol fought to the last in complete surroundings, cut off from the big land. Their feat should not be forgotten. The society should see what a frivolous policy leads to, as a result of which part of the people considered a monster as a friend, and the state disarmed from the first days of its formation. The price of our freedom should be known to everyone who lives here and everyone who comes here,” comments the head of the Patronage Service, Olena Tolkachova. The families of the fallen defenders of Mariupol and the Patronage Service call on Ukrainians to support the project of creating a memorial complex on the Singing Field – so that future generations will have a place to honor the heroic struggle of the “Azovs”. The defenders of Mariupol with their own lives restrained the three times superior forces of the enemy, which enabled the Armed Forces of Ukraine to preserve the borders of Ukraine in other directions,” the appeal reads. The overwhelming Russian forces were restrained by the fighters of the Azov Regiment, the 36th separate brigades of marines, patrol police, as well as border guards, security guards and other military personnel. There were also hundreds of civilians on “Azovstal” when the Russians bombarded the bunkers with the use of aircraft, ships and ground units. The military fought for “Azovstal” under constant enemy fire, for the lack of medicine and food. Most of the fighters were in the infamous colony in Olenivka – on the night of July 29, the Russians treacherously killed 53 defenders of Mariupol, probably by planting explosives in the barracks. On June 29, 95 wounded defenders of “Azovstal” were returned to Ukraine, and the next exchange took place on September 21. During the large September exchange, 215 soldiers were freed from captivity, in particular: “Azov” officer Ilya Samoilenko, chief of staff Bohdan Krotevich, head of the Mariupol patrol police Mykhailo Vershinin, volunteer paramedic Kateryna Polishchuk with the call sign “Bird”, marine Mykhailo Dianov, Dmytro “Orest” ” Kozatskyi – the author of the legendary photos from Azovstal, as well as the pregnant doctor Maryana Mamonova. Recently, on April 10, an exchange also took place, during which Ukraine returned 100 fighters (several of them are defenders of “Azovstal”). In particular, Valeria Subotina with the call sign “Nava”, who got married and lost her lover at “Azovstal”, was released from Russian captivity. Unfortunately, according to the Association of Families of Defenders of Azovstal, more than 700 fighters of the “Azov” regiment are still in captivity of the enemy. Earlier, Ukrainians supported the petition to start the Day of Honoring the Defenders of Mariupol.
