On May 2, the Parliament officially recognized the political regime in Russia as “racism” and condemned it. What is “racism” and how its recognition by the Verkhovna Rada will help Ukraine in the fight against the aggressor, the journalists of the SPRAVDI project told, the Ministry of Justice reports. “Racism” is a term that describes the political ideology of the Russian regime, and which began to be widely used since the beginning of the Great War. The main signs of “racism”: aggressive hatred of other people whose opinion differs from the typical propaganda of the Russian Federation; the ideology of the spiritual theory of the Russian Orthodox Church about the “God-chosenness” of Russians. Journalists believe that “racism” has absorbed the features of various totalitarian ideologies of the past: fascism, Nazism, Stalinism. They cite examples of such stamps of Russian propaganda regarding Ukraine: “We have never attacked anyone”; “The Russians do not attack, they only liberate”; “A coup organized by America took place on the Maidan”; “Ukraine and Ukrainians do not exist, this is an artificial, fictional nation”; “Crimea left on its own because the people of Crimea did not support the coup d’état”; “The cities of southern Ukraine were founded by Russian rulers”; “Crimea is Russian because a referendum was held there”; “Ukraine attacked and is killing the people of Donbas.” According to SPRAVDI, the recognition of Russia’s ideology as “racism” will officially establish the name and definition of the phenomenon that Ukrainians oppose. This “will help to form a unified approach of international institutions to the definition of Russian policy,” and in the future “will facilitate the bringing to real responsibility” of Russian war criminals.
