“Woman with a Clock” is a portrait of Picasso’s “golden muse”, a French model Maria-Teresa Walter. The girl is sitting in a chair on a blue background. The picture was painted in 1932.
Maria-Teresa Walter was 17 years old when she met 45-year-old Picasso. Later, she became the lover of the artist, while he was married to the Ukrainian ballerina Olga Khokhlovia.
The girl became the heroine of many paintings by Pablo Picasso. In particular, the picture “Naked woman” (Femme Nue Couchee) was sold at auction in 2022 for $67.5 million. Other Walter portraits have also become popular among collectors: “A woman sits by the window” (Femme assise près d’une fenêtre), which sold for $103.41 million in 2021 and “Nudity, green leaves and bust” (Nude, Green Leaves and Bust) for $106.5 million in 2010.
