In Khmelnytskyi, the investigators declared suspicion against the doctor of the ambulance brigade – almost 3 years ago, she did not hospitalize children who had carbon monoxide poisoning. On October 25 and 27, 2020, boys aged 4 and 9 died from carbon monoxide poisoning, the police of Khmelnytskyi region reports. The children were vomiting and nauseated, so the mother called an ambulance, but they were not taken to the hospital. Investigators say that the doctor did not conduct a proper examination, did not find out all the possible causes of ill health, incorrectly established the diagnosis and did not hospitalize the children. “The ambulance that my mother called did not hospitalize her. She thought it was either poisoning or a rotavirus infection, because she was vomiting and nauseated. And when the second ambulance was already called, the younger boy was without signs of life,” – told “UP. Life” in the press service. The second ambulance took the older boy to the hospital, but he died 2 days later in the intensive care unit. The children’s mother was also hospitalized and managed to save her, the press service said. The law enforcement officers started criminal proceedings, established all the facts and conducted special examinations. “During the investigation of the criminal proceedings, the investigators conducted a complex of investigative and procedural actions, ordered a number of medical examinations,” law enforcement officers say. The doctors of the ambulance brigade, which on that day went to the first call about child poisoning, announced a suspicion under part 2 of Article 140 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (“Improper performance of professional duties by a medical or pharmaceutical worker”). The sanction of the article provides for restriction of liberty for a term of up to 5 years or deprivation of liberty for a term of up to 3 years, with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a term of up to 3 years. The investigation was conducted by the GUNP in Khmelnytskyi region under the procedural guidance of the Khmelnytskyi regional prosecutor’s office.
