The Franko Theater is not going to fire the actor Ostap Stupka, who will stand trial for committing a serious road accident with a victim. Stupka was driving under the influence of alcohol. The artist faces imprisonment for up to 3 years with a ban on driving a vehicle. The court will determine whether such a measure of punishment will be applied to the actor. And as long as the People’s Artist waits for the court’s verdict, he will not take part in Franko’s productions. Instead, when the court verdict is announced and if it is such that Stupka will be able to play on stage, his native theater will return his previous roles. The director of the theater, Mykhailo Zakharevich, told about this in the commentary of UP.Zhyttya. At the same time, the general director of the theater emphasized that the management of the cultural institution condemns the act of Ostap Stupka. However, according to Zakharevich, such behavior of one actor should not cast a shadow on the reputation of the entire theater. “We condemn his behavior – that’s the only thing we can do. And everything else will be done by the court. The reputation of the theater, where 600 people work, cannot depend on the reputation of one person. We are waiting for the court’s decision,” Zakharevich said. This will not be a problem for the theater, because almost all performances have two casts. For example, in the recent premiere of “The Visit” directed by David Petrosyan, where Stupka played one of the main roles, the burgomaster will now be played by actor Roman Yasinovskyi in both casts. However, after the court decision, Ostap Stupka will obviously get his roles back. “We have two people for each role. Ostap Stupka will come out – when he is released – he will also play. And why would we refuse an employee? He will be punished, according to the current legislation, according to a court decision. To refuse a person, even we have no intention of condemning the one who committed a misdemeanor. Do we condemn – yes, we do. And the vast majority of the team condemns. But we will not give up on Ostap Stupka – he worked in the theater for many years. I have not yet seen him, I have not spoken to him, but what I was told – he repents himself,” Zakharevich said. Later it became known that it was about People’s Artist of Ukraine Ostap Stupka, who was detained by law enforcement officers on the spot. The artist was in the pre-trial detention center for several days, and later, according to the media, he returned home, where he will await the court’s verdict.
