The jury of the “Prosvetitel” award published short lists of nominated books in the fields of humanities and exact sciences.
Among the studies in Russian are the books “What Happened to the Climate” by Ramiz Aliyev, “The Birth of a Soviet Woman” by Nadezhda Plungyan and “Education of Machines: A New History of Reason” by Sergey Shumsky. In addition to them, shortlists included works on dinosaurs in Russia, mathematics in everyday life, corruption in the Stalinist USSR and the Chaadaev case.
A separate prize will be awarded to books translated into Russian. Among its nominees are “Political Emotions” by Marta Nussbaum and “Mobilized Nation: Germany 1939–1945” by Nicholas Stargardt, as well as research on genes, intelligence in the animal world, the relationship between morality and violence in human evolution.
The winners of the “PolytProsvet” prize and special award – for help in understanding social and political processes in Russia (the nominees were named earlier) – will be announced on November 16, 2023.
- The “Prosvetitel” award was established in 2008 by the founder and honorary president of the company “Vympelkom” Dmytro Zimin and the “Dynasty” non-commercial programs fund. Since 2016, it has been supported by the Zimin Foundation.
