In Prykarpattia, the remains of a killed red deer were found in the Black Forest Reserve. The police have started criminal proceedings.

According to the police of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, the director of the protected farm contacted the law enforcement officers, who reported that the remains of an animal were found on the forestry territory.

The police interviewed the foresters and identified three potential suspects, who are residents of the village of Zaviy, Kaluska district.

Law enforcement officers searched the men’s residences, during which they found frozen meat similar to the meat of a wild animal, a backpack with brown spots, three registered smooth-bore weapons, ammunition, deer and roe deer skulls. All this was seized by the police for examination. Investigations are ongoing.

As the press service of the police of the Ivano-Frankivsk region reported in a comment for “UP. Life”, criminal proceedings have been opened under Article 248 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal hunting.

Later, the facts of the event and the evidence base will be established.

The sanction of the article provides for restriction of freedom for a period of up to 3 years, community service from 160 to 240 hours or a fine of up to 3,400 hryvnias.

According to the police, the Ukrainian Association of Hunters and Fishermen estimated the state’s losses at 470,000 hryvnias.
