The rocket hit the car: the story of a fighter being treated in Lviv

Dmytro Shemenyuk was wounded during a combat mission near Kupyansk in Kharkiv region. The Russians hit the car with a rocket: it miraculously managed to survive. In serious condition with multiple burns and fractures, he was taken to Lviv, where his treatment and rehabilitation began. This was reported in the “Nezlamni” National Rehabilitation Center. The 39-year-old man comes from Volyn. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion in 2014, Dmytro served 6 years in the border guard and one year in the Armed Forces. When the Russians launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the serviceman was at home. Photo: “Nezlamni” center On the day when the man was wounded, he and 4 comrades went on a combat mission. However, the enemy aircraft unexpectedly covered their crew – a rocket hit the car directly. Half of the car was torn off, the metal melted. Two brothers were killed immediately, three others were thrown out of the car by the blast wave. When Dmytro regained consciousness, he saw that everything around him was on fire. Despite the terrible pain, burns and multiple fractures, he gathered his strength and managed half a kilometer on his own. However, this load turned out to be too much for him – he lost consciousness. Three seriously wounded comrades were found by other fighters and taken to the military hospital in Kupyansk. After providing first aid, Dmitry was transferred to the intensive care unit in Kharkiv. He was in serious condition – he was connected to a ventilator. When the doctors finally managed to stabilize his condition, he was taken to Lviv. Dmytro with a doctor from Lviv Doctors first cleaned the wounds and closed them, transplanted the skin from the thigh to the arm, where there was a significant fire damage. Next, the doctors will fix the bones in the places of fractures. Despite the fact that Dmytro is in for a long rehabilitation, he wants to return to the front as soon as possible and defend the country from the enemy.
