What to do if you need to leave the shelter? ✅ Go out only in case of urgent need. ✅ Use a respirator, wear a raincoat and rubber boots and gloves. ❌ DO NOT undress outside. ❌ DO NOT sit on the ground. ❌ DO NOT swim in open water bodies. ❌ DO NOT collect mushrooms or wild berries. ✅ After returning home, remove the top layer of clothing. So you will get rid of up to 90% of radioactive material. Do this carefully so as not to shake up the radioactive dust. ✅ Place the clothes in a plastic bag or airtight container and keep them away from people and pets. ✅ Wash yourself. If possible, take a shower with soap, wash your head with shampoo. ❌ DO NOT use hair conditioners. They can fix radioactive material on it. ❌ DO NOT rub or scratch the skin to prevent radioactive material from entering open wounds. ✅ If it is not possible to take a shower, wash your hands, face and exposed parts of your body with soap under running water. ✅ If there is no access to water, use wet wipes, a wet cloth. ✅ Pay special attention to your hands and face, wipe your eyelids, eyelashes, ears. ✅ Put on clean clothes. How to eat and drink water safely? WATER ✅ Use water only from proven sources. ✅ Until rescuers or authorities report on the safety of tap water, only bottled water will remain uncontaminated. Even if the tap water is contaminated, you can still use it for disinfection. “Any radioactive material that enters surface or groundwater will be diluted with water to a very low level and will be safe for washing skin, hair and clothing,” says the CGZ. FOOD ✅ Food from airtight containers (cans, cans, bottles, boxes, etc.) will be safe to eat. ✅ You can also eat products that have been stored in the refrigerator or freezer. How to eat properly? Iodine prophylaxis If you have received a message about a radiation accident, conduct iodine prophylaxis. ✅ For 7 days, take one tablet (0.125 g) of potassium iodide, and for children under the age of 2 – part of a tablet (0.04 g). ✅ If there is no potassium iodide, use an iodide solution: 3-5 drops of a 5% iodine solution per glass of water, 1-2 drops for children under 2 years old.
