On Tuesday, August 1, the second part of the Soviet coat of arms was removed from the “Motherland” monument in Kyiv. Work on replacing the coat of arms with the Ukrainian trident should be completed by Independence Day, August 24. Today, the lower fragment was dismantled from the monument – part of the wreath made of ears of corn braided with a ribbon. The dismantling of the second part of the coat of arms of the USSR was recorded by a photographer of the UP. At the dismantling today, the acting director was present. Minister of Culture and Information Policy Rostislav Karandeev. He noted that historical events are currently taking place before our eyes, because with each new element of the coat of arms that is removed, the country is getting rid of the remnants of the Soviet past. It was built in 1981 and is located on the territory of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War. The dismantling of the Soviet coat of arms on the “Motherland-Mother” monument is being carried out within the framework of the “Trident of the Motherland” project. Work on it began as early as 2022. In July 2022, a survey was conducted in “Diya” At that time, 85% of respondents supported the replacement of the coat of arms of the USSR with the Ukrainian trident. The cost of the “Trident of the Motherland” project is UAH 28 million. However, no state funds were involved in its implementation – everything is funded by private investors and various donors. Recently, it became known that the coat of arms of the “Motherland-Mother” will not only be changed to the Ukrainian trisum, but the monument itself will also be renamed.
