In the Arkhangelsk region, the church of Basil the Blessed collapsed in the village of Chukhcherma – a wooden monument of architecture, erected in 1824. It happened on July 31, News29 reports.
Local deputy Valentyn Bugrov said that since 2016 he had been asking the authorities to save the church, had appealed to the regional and federal ministries of culture, to deputies and to the Arkhangelsk diocese.
The local Ministry of Culture claimed that the restoration project had been developed and passed an examination, and an application for financing the repair was sent to the federal agency. It never started, reports Sever.Realii.
The Church of St. Basil the Blessed was built on the site of the St. George’s Church, which burned down in 1823. It was part of the ensemble of the Chukhchem-Ilyin Church. Now only the bell tower of 1783 remains of it.
The former church was an object of cultural heritage of Russia, it was considered one of the classic examples of a Kletsky church – a wooden log cabin with gable roofs.
