The Soviet and Russian poet-songwriter Nikolai Dobronravov died in Moscow on Sunday night. He was 94 years old.

Dobronravov was born in 1928 in Leningrad. He graduated from the Nemyrovych-Danchenko Studio School at the Moscow Art Theater. He started as an actor and playwright, but gained fame as a poet, author of song lyrics. In 1956, Dobronravov married the composer Alexandra Pakhmutova, who became his longtime co-author.

Dobronravov and Pakhmutova own such famous Soviet songs as “Belovezhskaya Pushcha”, “And again the battle continues”, “How young we were”, “Love, Komsomol and Spring”, “Nadezhda”, “Tenderness”. They wrote a farewell song for the closing ceremony of the 1980 Olympics “Goodbye, Moscow”.

In addition to Pakhmutova, music for songs based on Dobronravov’s poems was written by other famous Soviet composers, including Mikael Tariverdiev, Polad Byul-Byul Ogly, Yevgeny Martynov. His songs were performed by popular Soviet singers – Edita Piekha, Muslim Magomaev, Lyudmila Zykina, Anna Herman, Iosif Kobzon, Georg Ots and many others.
