The director of UIC Oleksandra Koval informed the publishing houses about the beginning of the transfer of funds. “Payments under contracts with Ukrainian publishers have been made! Hooray!” – she wrote on her Facebook.

Koval clarified that at the moment the state has started to reimburse only half of Ukrainian publishing houses. “But we believe that the treasury will complete the payments“, the director of the Institute expressed hope.

Debt of 45 million

On December 25, the Ukrainian Book Institute issued an official appeal to the Minister of Finance and the head of the State Treasury Service of Ukraine. In it, the UIC reported the lack of payment for projects implemented in 2023.

According to the UIC, the amount owed amounted to 44 million 935 thousand UAH. It was formed by the implementation of the following programs:

  • project competition, within which Ukrainian publishing houses produced and handed over patriotic book products to libraries at their own expense (131 contracts, debt in the amount of UAH 33.1 million)
  • a competition for the organization and holding of activities for the promotion of reading (5 contracts, debt in the amount UAH 1.79 million)
  • translation support program – Translate Ukraine 2023. Foreign publishers who invested their own funds in the projects did not receive payment here (55 contracts for the amount 10 million hryvnias)
