In March 2022, he voluntarily joined the Defense Forces and joined the ranks of the National Guard. And for more than a year of the war, in the battles in the Luhansk direction, Bohdan experienced what he was most afraid of when he went to war – irreversible loss of sight.

As soon as the Russian Federation began its attack on Ukraine, the man decided to go and defend his Motherland

We got into position. The enemy immediately began to storm us. Everything flew at us and here one of the mines flew to me. I only remember the explosion, a bright flash in my eyes and that’s all, then I lost consciousness“, the defender says.

Bohdan regained consciousness only a few weeks after the injury – already in a hospital in Kyiv. This is how he describes his feelings at the time:

He opened his eyes – it was dark. At first I thought it was due to swelling or a bandage“.

Then the man realized that he had lost his left eye, and his right eye, although physically preserved, would never be able to see again.

Lose your sight for me it’s just the horror of life. I took it very painfully and still can’t say that I have come to terms with it“, the defender admits.

Despite the loss of sight, Bohdan dreams of returning to the profession of a programmer.

Bohdan was sent to Lviv to the Nezlamni center for rehabilitation for servicemen who lost their sight on the battlefield. In a short period of time, specialists helped Bohdan better adapt to life at home and outside the hospital.

Currently, the defender is adapting to life in the household
