In the capital of Japan, Tokyo, 50-year-old taxi driver Atsushi Ozawa deliberately drove into a flock of pigeons and killed one of them.
The man was arrested for violating wildlife protection laws, The Guardian reports, citing a statement from a Tokyo police spokesman in a comment to Agence France-Presse.
According to Japanese media reports, the taxi driver allegedly “ran” from a traffic light after the light turned green and crashed into the birds at a speed of 60 km/h.
The incident was reported to the police by a passerby who was alerted by the sharp sound of the engine.

The taxi driver told the police that he ran into the birds because “roads are for people, and pigeons should avoid cars.”
The veterinarian, who conducted a post-mortem examination of the pigeon, determined the cause of the bird’s death to be traumatic shock.
Tokyo police described the driver’s actions as “extremely malicious” and arrested him.
It should be noted that the legal capture of a certain number of wild pigeons is allowed in Japan, but the punishment for killing their “urban relatives” is not provided for only in cases where, for example, they cause damage to crops and livestock, and only with the approval of local authorities.
