The story of a National Guardsman with the call sign Lom, who fought near Kreminna

Serhiy, a 40-year-old soldier of the National Guard with the call sign Lom, rose from private to junior sergeant in two months and began commanding the unit. In February 2023, he was given the rank of junior lieutenant ahead of time, and now the man commands a platoon.

The story of the fighter was told in the National Guard of Ukraine.

Serhiy was born and lived in Pervomaisk, graduated from the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute with a degree in environmental science. However, he did not work for a single day.

The man changed many professions: he was a baker, a security guard in a supermarket, he worked in an elevator.

Scrap and battalion cat

Sergei did not serve in the army, but he joined the army from the first day of the full-scale war. According to him, they were accepted only on the third attempt: the man is not only limitedly fit for service due to his health, but also has three minor children.

“You can say – I applied to the National Guard”– says Serhiy.

During the war, he received the call sign “Scrap”. The man was fond of wrestling, in his youth he won the title of bronze medalist of the USSR championship.

Serhii says that the first fight is “a mess”, and then you “get involved”.

“You begin to see meanings that you did not see before, even some courage comes, you understand that you are fighting for your country.” – he says.

The National Guardsman fought near Balakleya and took part in the liberation of Kupyansk.

However, he says that he will tell his grandchildren more about Kreminna in the Luhansk Region.

Lieutenant Colonel Izyum, the deputy commander for work with personnel of the rifle battalion, told how on February 1, 2023, Lom was in charge of one of the positions.

“It was February 1 of this year – the occupying forces went on the offensive and attacked our positions with the aim of breaking through the defenses at the designated line. Entering into a fierce battle with the enemy near the settlement of Kreminna in the Luhansk region, at that time junior sergeant Lom managed to organize an effective fire system and suppress the enemy in a shooting battle”, – says the soldier.

Serhiy destroyed a group of the enemy consisting of 10 people.

Fierce fighting did not stop for several days. On February 2, the enemy made another attempt to break through the defenses in the Kreminnaya area. Serhii personally tried to destroy the enemy BMP-2.

The first grenade ricocheted off the hull and hit the enemy’s grenade launcher, the second shot hit the turret of the machine – the enemy BMP-2 retreated and could no longer fire.

For his courage and excellent combat skills, Serhiy was presented with a high state award.

After the victory, Serhiy plans to return to a peaceful life and spend time with his family.

“I didn’t sign the contract, I’m mobilized, I don’t even plan to go to the colonels, because no one will write.” – jokes Lom.

While Serhiy was serving in the army, his eldest daughter came of age and went to study to become a designer. Serhiy’s younger children are still studying at school.
