La Palisade, director Philip Sotnichenko’s debut feature film, won the FIPRESCI prize at the Rotterdam International Film Festival, Derzhkino reported. Before that, Ukraine had one of the highest rates of death sentences in the world. In particular, according to the London-based Organization for the Protection of Human Rights, in 1996 Ukraine was in second place in the world after China, having sentenced 89 people to death. In total, more than 600 executions have been carried out in Ukraine since 1991. Law enforcement officers are in a hurry to close the case before the death penalty is abolished, but the doctor is not sure of the defendant’s jurisdiction and doubts the transparency of the law enforcement system. Andriy Zhurba, Novruz Hikmet, Oleksandr Parkhomenko, Valeria Oleinikova, Olena Mamchur, Oleksandr Marleev played the main roles in the film. Filming took place in Transcarpathia and Kyiv and ended in December 2021. International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) is one of the most famous European film festivals. It takes place annually in various cinemas in Rotterdam at the end of January. Known in the film industry as a competition of innovative films, which opened the world to such masters of original cinema as Christopher Nolan. This year it lasted from January 25 to February 5.
