The Ukrainian musician won the prestigious violinist competition in Paris

Ukrainian violinist from Lviv Bohdan Lutz became the laureate of the first prize of the Long-Thibaud International Violin Competition 2023. This is an international competition of academic pianists and violinists, which has been held in Paris for 80 years.
Bohdan Lutz’s victory was announced by Vere Music Fund.
“In the final of the competition, Bohdan performed Sibelius’ violin concerto. It was performed in the presence of two thousand spectators in the large hall of the University of Paris II, accompanied by the Orchestra of the Republican Guard, conducted by Maestro François Boulanger“, the message says.
In addition, the violinist from Lviv received several special prizes: the press prize, the prize of audience sympathy, as well as an award from the musicians of the orchestra that accompanied the finalists. On Monday, November 27, Lutz, as the winner of the competition, will give a concert in the famous Paris hall – Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.

“This is a real triumph not only for Bohdan (because it is one of the highest achievements in the violinist’s life!), but also for Ukraine. About Bohdan Luts
Bohdan Lutz was born in 2004 in Lviv. He studied at the Mykola Lysenko Kyiv State Music Lyceum (Olga Korynets’ class) and at the Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv State Music Lyceum (Maria Futorska’s class).
“We have been cooperating with Bohdan for five years, ever since he studied at the Lviv Specialized Music School named after Solomiya Krushelnytska. He is currently studying at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, with Professor Oleh Kaskiv, a Ukrainian violinist who devotes an incredible amount of time to his Ukrainian students both in Switzerland and in Ukraine. Lutz is a laureate of numerous international competitions. Among his achievements: first prize at the Carl Nielsen International Competition (Denmark, 2022); first prizes and four special awards at the III/V International Contests of young violinists “I’ll be a virtuoso” (Poland, 2015, 2017); grand prix and first prize at the Lviv Virtuoso International Competition (Ukraine, 2017); grand prix and first prize at two International Competitions of Bohdan Warchal “Talents for Europe” (Slovakia, 2014, 2016) and many others.

Had concerts in Switzerland, Slovakia and Ukraine. He performed with the Symphony Orchestra of Copenhagen, the Odense Symphony Orchestra, the Košice Symphony Orchestra (Slovakia), the Lviv National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Lviv Virtuosos and Trembita chamber orchestras, the INSO-Lviv Symphony Orchestra, and the National Ensemble of Soloists “Kyivska Camerata”.
About the Long-Thibaud International Competition
This is an international classical music competition held in France since 1943. It was created by pianist Marguerite Long and violinist Jacques Thibault – the competition is named after their surnames. In 1980, it was split into two separate competitions, with pianists competing only against other pianists and violinists competing only against other violinists.
“The competition is part of the World Federation of International Music Competitions. This is an organization that unites the most prestigious music competitions in the world. After such competitions, usually, the life of a musician changes fundamentally. He goes to another level in his career. This is an event of a national scale in France, which the country’s president pays attention to“, Piminov said.
Over the years of the competition, Ukrainians have won it only twice. In 2018, the winner of the Long-Thibaud International Violin Competition was the Ukrainian violinist Diana Tishchenko.
