1,300 new books – despite the difficult conditions, the 11th International Book Arsenal Festival takes place with a stunning showcase of novelties. 77 Ukrainian publishers presented their new books. The most books were provided by Vivat, “Ranok”, “Stary Lev Publishing House”, “Family Leisure Club”. This year, the publishing house created during the war – “Bearded Tamarin” – also entered the showcase. As usual, the showcase of new products of the Book Arsenal accepts books published throughout the year. Chitomo presents a traditional review of new products. This year, the “guide” with new printings is called “Showcase of novelties – the year of sustainability”. Observers noted that the book publishing industry continues to work. “Despite rocket attacks on printers, bookstores, and warehouses, despite the fact that publishing house employees went to the front, went abroad or to another region of Ukraine, the industry demonstrates an amazing ability to adapt and withstand. The Russians destroyed entire warehouses and libraries of Ukrainian books by the tons, but publishers will be able to fill them again. And no longer with books with a Russian or Soviet narrative. But with books about this war, of which dozens were published in a year. Our task is to buy, read them and thus support publishers,” noted Oksana Khmelivska, editor-in-chief of “Chitomo” “. Compared to last year, the number of publications in the categories “Children’s prose and poetry” and “Juvenile literature” decreased, but the number of publications in the “Books about war” section increased. The categories with publications “Art publications”, “Graphic prose”, “Poetry” remained practically unchanged. In general, you can familiarize yourself with new products in 11 categories. “Showcase of novelties” will be presented in the space of the Book Arsenal. There are several innovations in this year’s showcase. Artificial intelligence can suggest which book to read. There was also an opportunity to create your wish list and come to the Book Arsenal 2023 prepared. “Visitors to the festival, as in previous years, will be able to browse the novelties, and get acquainted with some of them for the first time, because they will come to the festival directly from the printers. In addition, visitors will be able to make a wish list with which they can later make a purchase on the publishers’ websites or in bookstores, many of which have opened in Ukraine over the past year,” says Anastasia Zagorui, project coordinator. Selections from Ukrainian literary critics – Tetyana Petrenko, Anastasia Gerasimova and Tetyana Trofymenko – are also presented at the showcase of novelties. The Asrenal Book Festival will be held in a slightly changed format and will last from the evening of June 22 (official opening) to June 25. The focus theme of this year’s Book Arsenal is “When Everything Matters.” Its curator is journalist Natalya Humenyuk.
