There are more than 5,000 military women in the combat zone – statistics

After the full-scale invasion began, the number of women in the military increased significantly.

As of October 2023, more than 62,000 women are part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is 7.3% of the total number of troops, according to the Military Media Center.

43,479 women are military personnel. Among the entire number of military personnel, they make up 5.3%.

Military personnel are distributed as follows:

  • officers – 7,709 (6.6% of the total number);
  • non-commissioned officers – 11,732 (6.6%);
  • soldiers – 22,704 (4.4%);
  • cadets – 1,334 (18.1%).

18,583 women are civilian personnel, which is 48.2% of the entire workforce.

There are 5,160 women in leadership positions in the Armed Forces, and 13,487 female servicewomen have received the status of combatant.

Currently, there are more than 5,000 women in the war zone.

For comparison, in 2014, the total number of women in the Armed Forces was 49,926, of which 16,557 were servicemen.

“Currently, on the battlefield in Ukraine, we have the largest number of women in recent world history. They show themselves not only as good military financiers or doctors, but also as brave soldiers who faithfully defend their Motherland.” – Deputy Minister of Defense Nataliya Kalmykova said.
