In Norway, on the island of Jomfruland, a family using a metal detector in the yard of their own house found artifacts from the Viking era.

The historic find was discovered while searching for an earring, reports CBS News.

While searching for gold jewelry, the Aasvik family came across a bowl-shaped buckle and an object that resembled part of a burial crypt.

The Westfall and Telemark County Heritage Board later said the family had most likely discovered the remains of a woman buried in the 800s.

“The remains of the Vikings were found in the middle of the garden under a large tree”, – added in the department.

It is noted that the discovered artifacts are the first evidence of the presence of a Viking settlement on the island of Jomfruland.

It is not known whether the earring was found.
