“This is hypocrisy”: The Pope responded to criticism of the blessing of same-sex couples

Pope Francis responded to critics of his decision to bless same-sex couples. He accused them of hypocrisy.

“No one criticizes when I bless an entrepreneur who may be exploiting people. And this is the gravest sin.

Instead, they make a fuss when I bless homosexuals. This is hypocrisy! We all have to respect each other.” – said Pope Francis in an interview for the Italian magazine Credere.

The Vatican emphasizes that blessings for same-sex couples do not come from the “union” but from the people who ask for it.

“I’m not blessing a ‘same-sex marriage’, I’m blessing two people who love each other, and I’m asking them to pray for me. You can’t deny anyone a blessing,” said the Pope.

We will remind you that on December 18, 2023, Pope Francis approved the Fiducia Supplicans declaration, which allows same-sex couples to be blessed without marriage.

In January, the Pope first responded to opposition to this. He believed that people who were outraged by the decision had misunderstood its purpose and had drawn the wrong conclusions.

However, such couples will not be blessed in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. This was said by the head of the UGCC His Beatitude Metropolitan Sviatoslav, stating that the adopted declaration concerns the Latin and not the Eastern Catholic churches. According to him, legally it has no force for Ukrainians.
