Barcelona’s Gran Teatre del Liceu Opera House has hired a director, Ita O’Brien, who will monitor the comfort of actors participating in “intimate” scenes.

This is the first such position in Spain, Reuters reports.

Ita O’Brien’s duties include maintaining a “healthy atmosphere” on stage when the actors are involved in intimate scenes.

In particular, the woman will watch the adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play “Antony and Cleopatra”, the premiere of which will take place on October 28.

According to O’Brien, theater actors usually do not go through the stage of agreement and consent for passionate scenes, which can make them feel awkward and confused during them.

Therefore, at the rehearsals, the director will intimately invite the performers to “hug” and then discuss their emotions during touching.

“We invite the artist to be honest with us about personal boundaries, and that’s a big shift in the industry. Their yes is your yes, your no is your no, and maybe is also a refusal”O’Brien noted.

It is noted that Ita O’Brien has 40 years of experience in acting and working in musical theater. On the subject of intimate scenes, she consulted, in particular, HBO and Netflix.
