British scientists have determined how diet affects hyperglycemia. Their discovery may help people with prediabetes to stop the incurable disease by adjusting their diet.

A pilot study by experts from Imperial College London published at the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. It was attended by 148 participants with high blood sugar and risk of developing type 2 diabetes, writes The Science Times.

They developed a 26-week personalized menu based on DNA. The study found that personalized dietary recommendations based on genetic information were more effective at lowering blood glucose levels than standard dietary advice.

This is explained by the fact that people who are genetically predisposed to chronic diseases, such as obesity, hypertension, high blood cholesterol or type 2 diabetes, should individually adjust the ratio of the amount of carbohydrates, fats, proteins and other macronutrients they consume .

For now, scientists need larger trials to make sure that the new approach can be applied in clinical practice.
