The National Health Service of Ukraine concluded contracts with 39 hospitals for the provision of medical services to patients in need of organ transplantation. Such operations are free for Ukrainians within the framework of the Medical Guarantee Program.

“A total of 44 medical institutions submitted proposals for the provision of services under packages for transplantation. After checking with five of them, the National Health Service denied the possibility of providing such services in 2024.” – noted in the Ukrainian Transplant Coordination Center.

The list of all medical institutions where organ transplants will be performed can be found at the link.

In addition, from 2024, within the framework of the Medical Guarantee Program, the state will cover the costs of organ transplantation. Two separate packages are provided for this:

  • treatment of adults and children by the method of transplantation;
  • treatment of adults and children by hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

The process of providing medical care under two transplant packages is divided into three stages:

  • pre-transplantation period – carrying out the necessary examinations, tests for patients and donors, preparation for surgical intervention;
  • transplantation period – carrying out an operation to transplant an organ, analgesia and treatment of the patient after, observation of him in the hospital;
  • post-transplantation period – medical services available to the patient after discharge from the hospital (up to 360 days from the moment of surgery).

You can learn more about the amount of guaranteed free medical care provided by both packages at the link.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health reported that the tariffs for organ transplants were not changed in 2024. Yes, the transplant fee will depend on the organ:

  • lungs – more than 2.6 million hryvnias;
  • the heart – more than 2 million hryvnias;
  • liver – about 1.4 million hryvnias;
  • kidneys – 800 thousand hryvnias.

The tariff for the post-transplantation period also depends on the transplanted organ and can range from 185 to 193 thousand hryvnias.

The cost of a stem cell transplant will also depend on which cells are used (the patient himself, a family or non-family donor), as well as on the duration of the patient’s post-transplant care.

The most expensive is the allogeneic transplantation of hematopoietic stem cells. 2.4 million hryvnias were allocated for it. Patients will be followed up for 180 days after such operations.
