On November 22, Ukraine was elected to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for the first time. As reported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy, this happened at the 24th session of the General Assembly of States Parties to the Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.

The election of Ukraine to the World Heritage Committee opens up new opportunities for the implementation of the Convention. In particular, the adoption of a decision on the use of the World Heritage Fund and the inclusion of objects in the List of World Heritage and the List of World Heritage in Danger.

Ukraine ratified the Convention on the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage in 1988.

At the same time, the day before, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization for the first time did not elect Russia to the membership of one of its main bodies – the Executive Council, which manages UNESCO’s budget and program activities.
