Ukraine will create an information system for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation: there is a government decision

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the resolution, which provides for the creation of the State Information System of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation.
As reported by the Ministry of Health, the State Information System will include a register of potential donors of hematopoietic stem cells.
The system will make it possible to more quickly search and form a donor-recipient pair, as well as quickly exchange information and documents with other information systems.
This is important, because in the search for a stem cell donor, the speed of determination of cell affinity plays a decisive role.

After filling the system with information about “biological passports” or the results of examinations of potential donors of hematopoietic stem cells, the number of people who will receive medical assistance with this method of treatment will increase.
Transplantation of stem cells is necessary for patients with three types of diseases:
- hematological: acute leukemia, multiple myeloma, plasma cell leukemia, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas;
- non-hematological: amyloidosis or POEMS-syndrome;
- autoimmune
“The greater the number of registered potential donors, the more chances patients have for recovery. However, in order for the system to work, it is also important to develop the culture bone marrow donation. The donor’s bone marrow is completely restored within a few weeks. In the meantime, someone’s life is saved.” – says Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko.
The Cabinet of Ministers also determined the procedure and conditions for filling out the register, its functioning, access to information and data. The implementation of these points is provided for by the State Anti-corruption Program for 2023-2025, the Ministry of Health notes.
