UKU students are criticized for a charity party at the Lviv House of Scientists

The student organization of the Ukrainian Catholic University organized a loud party in the Lviv House of Scientists. The event, which was held on April 29, caused outrage among some citizens. In particular, Lviv District Council member Nataliya Kolodiy, who is also a graduate of UKU, published a video from the party and called the event “unacceptable” in wartime. “A strange event took place at UCU, when students organized a party in the House of Scientists during the war. This act is unacceptable and is not supported by any moral and ethical standards,” Kolodiy believes. After the accusations on social networks, the students explained the situation: “Our organization always sets itself the goal of helping the Armed Forces of Ukraine, because we understand that we are able to organize events only thanks to their titanic work.” The youth asked for forgiveness – in particular, that “they did not take into account the announcement of mourning for those killed in Uman.” In the end, the students said that in the future they will look for other ways to provide financial assistance to the military. The organization added that on April 29 it was possible to collect UAH 29,000. “For the entire time of the full-scale war, as a student organization, through its events, it collected 227,000 hryvnias for the needs of the Armed Forces, which were transferred to the needs of the 80th, 205th, and 103rd brigades,” the activists write. Director of the House of Scientists, Vasyl Mastikash, confirmed that the party was held by UCU students, Suspilne writes. “I was approached by the head of the UCU public organization, Ivan Shevchyk, about holding a charity evening to raise funds for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They decided to organize the party in the style of “Hollywood”. Well, youth is youth, without music, you can’t do without it, accordingly, they held it in Saturday,” says Vasyl Mastikash. He adds that if the students were denied the party, they could be accused of not wanting to help the Armed Forces.
