Due to the undermining of the Kakhovskaya HPP by the Russians, losses of 46.55 billion UAH were caused to the Nizhnyodniprovskyi National Park. This was announced by the Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets. Due to the rise of the water level by 3.5 meters on about 80,000 hectares, almost all islands in the territory of the National Park were under water. “The high water affected the lands of the Emerald Network and the Ramsar sites. Due to the flooding, the entire species composition of the flora and fauna of the NPP was affected. Some species may disappear,” says the minister. Ruslan Strelets noted that the intensity of flooding is decreasing, but the water is still coming. Landslides, water transport of rock destruction products are also observed. 1016 species of plants and 1140 animals of the park were damaged. “Among the animals that can die: wild boar, fallow deer, red deer, roe deer, hare – rusak, pheasant, beaver, muskrat. A significant deterioration of water quality is possible,” says the minister. Other National Parks of the region were also affected. We are talking about the “Veliky Lug”, “Oleshkivski piski”, “Biloberezhja Svyatoslava” and “Kamyanska Sich” NPPs. As a reminder, more than 850 kilograms of aquatic organisms, including fish, died in the village of Maryanske, Dnipropetrovsk region, as a result of the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovka hydroelectric plant and the shallowing of the reservoir. Earlier, ecologists noted that the detonation of the hydroelectric power station is the most extensive impact on the ecosystem of Ukraine, as it will have negative consequences for wildlife on an area of more than 5,000 km².
