What medical services are free for veterans with cancer? NSZU explains

If a veteran has been diagnosed with cancer, he can be treated free of charge.
There are three packages of medical services covering chemotherapeutic and radiological treatment, as well as treatment and support of patients with hematological and oncological hematological diseases in hospital and outpatient settings.
The National Health Service of Ukraine explained what services for cancer treatment can be obtained under the Medical Guarantee Program.
“The state covers all the most important types of medical care for cancer patients at every stage of treatment”– they say in NSZU.

In particular, we are talking about the following services:
- counseling, medical assistance;
- conducting laboratory tests (blood tests, cerebrospinal fluid tests, molecular genetic tests, etc.);
- instrumental studies (MRI, X-ray, CT, endoscopic studies, ultrasound, scintigraphy, etc.);
- carrying out a cytological examination of the material obtained during opportunistic screening in a patient suspected of recurrence of neoplasm;
- medical supervision and nursing care 24/7;
- oxygen support;
- intensive therapy;
- analgesia at all stages of diagnosis and treatment;
- psychological assistance;
- accompanying drug therapy;
- provision of blood components and preparations;
- medicines from centralized purchases of the Ministry of Health and other programs, as well as medicines and medical products from the National List;
- food in the hospital.

“These packages of medical services include all the necessary examinations and drugs for malignant neoplasms, in particular, pain relief. There is no need to pay extra for anything”– they say in NSZU.

Where can you be treated?
A referral from your doctor is required to undergo radiation or chemotherapy.
A family doctor can also refer you to the treatment of hematological diseases.
You can be treated free of charge at the National Cancer Institute or at any other institution that has a contract with the NHSHU for oncology packages.
There are now 114 such institutions throughout Ukraine. To find the hospital you need, you can call the contact center of the National Health Service at number 16-77.
