Almost 22% of surveyed Ukrainians believe that the situation in domestic medicine has worsened since the beginning of the war. However, almost half of the respondents (49%) are sure that the invasion did not affect the state of the industry, according to the survey data of the Razumkov Center. 7% believe that the state of medicine has changed for the better, and almost 23% are undecided. “The lower the level of well-being of the respondents, the more often they indicate the worsening of the situation (from 11% among those who answered that they “live well” to 26% among those who do not have enough money even for food), and the less often they indicate improvement of the situation (11% and 4%, respectively) and that it has not changed (58.5% and 48%, respectively), sociologists say. What problems in medicine did Ukrainians face during the war? 26% say that it is impossible to buy the necessary medicines due to their absence, and 25% say that air strikes or power outages make it difficult to access treatment. Another 18% of respondents indicated that a doctor’s appointment or surgery was canceled due to an air strike or power outage. 15% complained of not being able to contact a doctor or call an “emergency service” due to communication problems, 12% were unable to obtain certain medical services due to hostilities or martial law, and 9.5% were faced with the fact that a doctor, to whom they had to turn, went abroad or to another region. Half of the respondents (49%) are sure that the invasion did not affect the state of the industry, 8% were left without a family doctor, due to the fact that he went abroad or to another region, 2% indicated that the medical facility to which it was necessary to contact was damaged or destroyed. The departure of doctors and the destruction of hospitals were most often reported by residents of the eastern regions. We will remind you that as of February 2023, 1,218 healthcare facilities in Ukraine were damaged. In particular, 540 hospitals were partially destroyed, and 173 were completely destroyed. According to the Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko, medical facilities in the Kharkiv region, in Donetsk, Luhansk, Mykolaiv and Kherson suffered the greatest destruction due to active hostilities. The survey was conducted from February 22 to March 1, 2023. 2020 respondents over the age of 18 were surveyed. The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. At the same time, additional systematic deviations of the sample may be caused by the consequences of Russian aggression, in particular, the forced evacuation of millions of citizens.
