The day before, on January 29, Ukrainian poet Dmytro Pavlychko died at the age of 93. He left behind not only a great creative legacy, but was also an active social and political figure: he became one of the organizers of the People’s Movement of Ukraine, was a member of the Verkhovna Rada, and worked as a diplomat. Pavlychko: poet, activist and politician Dmytro Pavlychko was born on September 28, 1929 in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, in a family with five children. The future legendary poet and translator began to write his first poems while studying in the 5th grade, in school notebooks. After graduating from the philological faculty of Lviv University in 1953, Pavlychko published the first collection of his own poetry – “Love and Hate”. On the initiative of Mykola Bazhan, the talented debutant was immediately accepted into the Union of Writers. Pavlychko continued to publish books every two or three years (“My Land” (1955), “Black Thread” (1958), “Truth is Calling” (1958). His poems marked the beginning of the Ukrainian Sixties. Dmytro Pavlychko on the 500th anniversary of Zaporozhye Cossacks. August 4, 1990. He was considered a sonnet master, but he not only published his own sonnets, but also translated the best examples of Western authors: in 1983, an anthology of European poets compiled by him “World Sonnet” was published. After moving to Kyiv with his family in 1964 , Pavlychko headed the script workshop of the Dovzhenko Film Studio. From 1971, for eight years, he was the editor of the literary magazine “Vsesvit”, which he was able to turn into a real cultural phenomenon. In 1977, he received the Shevchenko Prize, and it was followed by many awards and honors. At the end of 1980 Pavlychko becomes the head of the Society of the Ukrainian Language, and later one of the initiators of the creation of the political party People’s Movement of Ukraine, which fought for the country’s independence and its exit from the Soviet Union yuzu Pavlychko in the Verkhovna Rada on August 24, 1991. Pavlychko’s poems that became hits Many of Pavlychko’s works became songs. Undoubtedly, the most famous song based on the words of the poet is “Two Colors”. After composer Oleksandr Bilash created the music for this text, the poem gained national popularity. The first performer of the song was Anatoly Mokrenko. Among the many vocalists who performed “Two Colors” was Kvitka Tsysyk. Also, the song “Two Colors” inspires modern Ukrainian performers: Pavlychka’s poem, which has been a constant hit for almost 60 years, was performed by the bands “Komu nazh”, “VIJ”, “Motor’Rolla”, singer Viktor Pavlik, singers Nadia Dorofeeva and Oksana Fly. And a few years ago, the song was covered in French by the singer Alexa Heinze. Pavlychko is also the author of the lyrics of such songs as “Dews fell on the slopes”, “Song about Ukraine”, “The fog flows through the valley”, “I got cold, my dear, behind you”, “Untangled, scattered”. Songs with his texts were also performed by such Ukrainian singers as Dmytro Hnatiuk, the Yavir Quartet, and Vasyl Zinkevich. Pavlychko and love lyrics “Everything is not the same when there is no love,” Pavlychko wrote in his poems. And he left a great legacy of intimate lyrics marked by sincerity and passion. These are works from the cycle of poems “Fragrance of needles”, collections “Granoslov” and “The secret of your face”. We suggest recalling the most interesting poems from Pavlychko’s love lyrics: “In you alone I love many” In you alone I love many Women, girls and grandmothers. I am afraid of the number of your faces and masks, like the cosmos. I am afraid to throw back the veil Over the immensity of your being. I love the secret combination of man and divinity in you. Be gentle, that’s all you need for power over people. In the animal’s being, the rapacity Extinguishes, but does not darken at all, Let sometimes from your eye In the darkness of love scenes Shines like lightning, hereditary, Devilish, cosmic gene. Photo: Dana Pavlychko / Facebook “God, how deep you are in a kiss” God, how deep you are in a kiss, Like an abyss in a trembling tear From the all-seeing eye of God! God, how thirsty you are in touch, Like a desert dreaming in the sands About the ocean moving arms! God, how tender you are in love, Like the oat wind that sleeps in the field when the harvest begins! “Our love” Our love is like an airplane capable of carrying enormous burdens tenderly transferred to it on earth, only incapable of enduring the touch of someone else’s wing in flight, untouched, independent, tall, falling, burning, perishing, good at the same moment, it loves the heavens and still returns to the earth and every time the wings shuddering from pain, a spark flies into the concrete, as if the earth takes a short rest, the power that thunders in our blood. Photo: Facebook “I remember you, even though you are in front of me” I remember you, even though you are in front of me. I arouse in me your virginal image untouched by gray hair – get up, my soul, and let the light shine, and come out of the web As it was, and you were a goddess, my Mistress in transparent negligee. And indeed you rise from my memory, I am blind, like a bee in the depths of an orchid, In your radiance. And the gray hair is thick, And the trace of motherhood in the overripe flesh, And the look, like the mist of time on gilding, And the sorrowful, as if the temple is closed, the mouth – And everything that you have acquired in life, my dear, Works for your dominion, like a loss, Where now you make me look like a bitch, And you undress so freely, so slowly, That during that time the ages in your halo Now go out, then burn. I am. I’m not there.
