A letter from pro-Palestinian students of Harvard University regarding the situation in Israel has caused outrage among graduates of the famous university.

This is reported by Reuters.

The day before, a number of Harvard student organizations issued a joint statement in which they blamed the violence on the Israeli authorities.

“For the past two decades, millions of Palestinians in Gaza have been forced to live in open-air prisons. Israeli officials promise to ‘open the gates of hell,’ and the massacre in Gaza has already begun. Palestinians in Gaza have no shelter and nowhere to run.”the letter says.

The statement was signed by 34 Harvard student organizations, including the African-American Resistance Organization, the Arab Medical and Dental Student Association, Muslim Students, the group “Harvard Jews for Liberation” and others.

Harvard University’s distinguished alumni condemned the pro-Palestinian statement and called on the university to take action against the signatories.

Earlier, Harvard University President Claudine Gay and senior leadership, including 15 deans, released a statement that said they were “heartbroken by the death and destruction caused by Hamas’ attack on Israeli citizens.”

However, the statement avoided direct references to the students’ statement or the reaction to it.

Harvard is the most influential university in US politics, having produced 8 former presidents and 4 of the 9 current Supreme Court justices.

Lawrence Summers, a former U.S. Treasury secretary under Democratic President Bill Clinton and a former university president, was one of several Harvard alumni who criticized Harvard’s current administration for its lack of response.

“The silence of Harvard leadership has allowed Harvard to appear at best neutral regarding acts of terrorism against the Jewish state of Israel”– wrote Summers.

Elisa Stefanik, a representative of the US Republican Party from New York and a Harvard graduate, called the statement “disgusting” because it justified the “killing of innocent women and children.”

Republican Senator Ted Cruz, a graduate of Harvard Law School, wrote:

“What the hell is wrong with Harvard?”
