There is only one indication for the use of probiotics when taking antibiotics – this is diarrhea caused by the abuse of the latter.
First Deputy Minister of Health Serhii Dubrov told about this in an interview with “UP. Life”.
Probiotics called live strains of microorganisms that are contained in some food products, in particular dairy products.
According to Serhiy Dubrov, they should be used if there is a diagnosis of antibiotic-associated diarrhea, that is, diarrhea caused by the use of antibiotics.

“Antibiotics can kill, in particular, “normal” bacteria that live in the intestines, which causes diarrhea. But only a doctor can diagnose such consequences and prescribe the appropriate drugs. Otherwise, there is no need to take probiotics.”said the deputy head of the Ministry of Health.
As noted by Very Well Health, you can find probiotics in various forms in pharmacies. In addition, bacteria can be acquired through food, in particular:
- yogurt and kefir;
- sauerkraut;
- kobmuchu (tea mushroom).
Many probiotics are found in miso and kimchi dishes.
Probiotics in the human body:
- help restore and maintain healthy microflora of the entire gastrointestinal tract;
- can help strengthen immunity by increasing the number of beneficial bacteria in the intestine.
According to the US National Library of Medicine, most studies show that probiotics are safe, so there are no real contraindications.
There are some caveats to using probiotics for the elderly, as well as for patients who have either short bowel syndrome or a weakened immune system.
