Nobel laureate Svetlana Aleksievich is threatened with taking away her apartment in Minsk. The presenters of the Belarusian television show said on the air that this apartment would be ideal for the family of a riot police officer.

“Lukashenko threatens everyone who was involved in the revolution, he will take revenge on them,” Aleksievich said in an interview with Die Zeit.

Aleksievich bought this apartment after she received the Nobel Prize.

In 2020, Aleksievich supported protest actions in Belarus against Alexander Lukashenko and police violence, and then became a member of the presidium of the Coordination Council, created by representatives of the opposition and civil society to negotiate with the authorities about Lukashenko’s departure and the holding of new presidential elections. The authorities began repression against the members of the Coordination Council.

At some point, Aleksievich remained the only member of the presidium who remained free in Belarus: several people were arrested, others were forced to leave the country. After that, Aleksievich had to leave Belarus.
