The newspaper “Yakutsk Vecherny” carried the word “Roskompozor” and a frame from the film “Aita” on the cover, which was blocked by Roskomnadzor.

The agency found in the drama of the Yakut director Stepan Burnashev “a demonstration of the inequality of persons on the basis of nationality” and demanded the removal of the film from Russian streaming platforms.

The plot of “Aitya” is tied to the desire to take revenge on the Russian police officer Afon after the suicide of a pregnant schoolgirl who left a suicide note “Afonya, I hate you!”. As the plot develops, it turns out that the girl meant a Yakut schoolboy from a neighboring village.

The director of the film wrote a letter to Roskomnadzor and wants to prove that there is no nationalism in “Aita”.

The Minister of Culture of Yakutia Yuriy Kupriyanov said that he considers the film “worthy” and promised to issue an expert opinion if the Ministry of Culture of Russia needs it. But “the decision of Roskomnadzor is not discussed, it must be implemented,” said Kupriyanov.

“Aita” was released in March 2023 and collected more than 32 million rubles, becoming the highest-grossing Yakut film.
