Zelenskyi is asked not to mobilize contract post-graduate students: the petition has gathered 25,000 signatures

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi is called to initiate changes in the draft law on mobilization, which provides for the cancellation of the deferment for post-graduate contract students.

The corresponding petition on the website of the President’s Office received the necessary 25,000 votes for consideration.

In the document, which the Verkhovna Rada adopted in the first reading on February 7, in particular, it is proposed to deprive post-graduate students studying under a contract of the right to postponement.

“It is not clear on what basis postgraduate students studying on a contract basis are subject to mobilization.

People who have almost finished their dissertation, have already done so much work, spent money (to pay for the contract), they are the same people as those who study on a budget. All other categories remained unchanged, only graduate students were affected“, the author of the petition, Eduard Kolosok, emphasizes.

We will remind you that the Community of postgraduate students of Ukraine reacted negatively to the possible innovation, noting that “this is a step backwards for the education and science of Ukraine.” In addition, the number of post-graduate students who study with state funds is only 5-10% of the total enrollment.

“Bill 10449 acts as an open guarantor of inequality, that is, it distinguishes graduate students based on their source of funding, rather than merit, educational achievements or potential.” – it was said in the corresponding appeal.

The draft law also states that students obtaining a second higher education will also be subject to conscription during mobilization.
